The 11th running of the Inverloch Classic Dinghy Regatta, hosted by the SGYC and with the assistance of Inverloch Lions, Scouts, the Wooden Boat Association and our valued sponsors (Bass Coast Shire Council, Bendigo Bank, Alex Scott, Mitre 10, Terry White) , celebrates the joy of sailing classic dinghies on Anderson Inlet. Building on the success of past years, the purpose of the regatta is for owner/sailors to get these boats on the water and to display to the public the variety of timber dinghies that were once common along Victorian beaches, but are now quite rare.
We typically get 45+ boats on the water, which offers quite a spectacle for viewing from the beach.
Spectators can also get up close and personal to the boats and their skippers between races and marvel at the craftsmanship and dedication in building or restoring these boats.
As the saying goes, “they just don’t build them like that anymore!”
Full details for the February event are on the SGYC website (refer below). To give a flavour of what to expect, there’s a write up from our 2020 event there, plus some great videos.
In addition, on the Saturday afternoon at 4.30pm, the Wonthaggi Citizens Band will entertain us within the sailing club compound.
Everyone is welcome to come along and We look forward to seeing you here in Inverloch soon!. A bar service will be available.
The Inverloch Classic Wooden Dinghy Regatta focuses predominantly on racing dinghies of the era of around, but not limited to 1940-80 and in particular the Moth. These will typically be of (but not limited to) timber construction.
Additional activities and attractions with a historical link to Inverloch typically complete the weekend’s program, making it a great way to spend time around Classic boats on magnificent Andersons Inlet.
