Plants & Planting Day @ Mirboo Nth Hall

The Community Foundation is hosting a Plants and Planting Day at the Mirboo North Shire Hall thanks to the generosity of locals and neighbouring communities who are donating plants as well as their time to help the planting in gardens that have been impacted by February’s Storm event.

This event has a similar philosophy to the beautiful Plant Hope project operated by St Mary’s Anglican church, where donated plants grown by volunteers or purchased from our local nursery are freely available to storm affected locals.  In this case we are bringing it together on one particular day and are also able to offer some advice on replanting and some volunteer help to get plants into the ground.

The proposal for this day was started by former resident of Mirboo North, Gero Gardiner.  Gero and her husband Peter owned a plant nursery in Mirboo North a good few years ago and wanted to support the town in rebuilding after such significant damage.  Through the Inverloch Community House, they encouraged people to grow and donate plants to bring to Mirboo North for planting in damaged gardens.

The concept has expanded through the discussion and conversations arising from the recent public meeting on Recovery – Replant – Renew, organised by Denyse Menzies and Marg Thomas, with the idea that there are volunteers keen to help replanting in the local gardens.

How can you get involved?

If you have a damaged garden, just come along to the Shire Hall and get some advice on what plants will suit your garden and then take home some free plants.

If you are interested in having some help in planting in your garden, refer to enquiries below.

If you would like to help out on Sunday 23^rd June there are a couple of options for you too:  you can donate a plant (grown yourself or purchased locally) or you can volunteer to do some planting in a damaged garden.  In either case, please let us know in advance (refer to enquiries below)
